Maurice began photographing professionally while working as an outdoor expedition leader in Arizona. His work took him throughout the western United States where he photographed clients during outdoor adventures and wilderness training programs. He studied photography, earned a degree in philosophy and developed his skill for action and nature photography. In 1997 Maurice moved to New York City where he began shooting weddings and portraiture. He expanded his body of work by setting up a studio to create a controlled environment for his subjects. Maurice moved to Seattle in 2006 and continues to shoot weddings, portraiture and studio projects.

Maurice shoots primarily with 35mm and digital formats, and occasionally experiments with medium format, Polaroid and pinhole photography. Maurice takes an intuitive approach to create images that are naturally composed and photojournalistic in style. Although he shoots with professional grade equipment, Maurice believes "extraordinary photographs can be made with any camera." Whether working with natural light or flash, with black & white or color, in an urban, studio or natural setting, Maurice reveals a unique perspective that captures the essence of his subjects.
